Article by Anna Keyter / Photo supplied by Alan Bradshaw. Founder of the PBI.

A little while back, I had this idea bubbling away: create a simple online referral network just for psychologists. Nothing fancy – basically a private group where we could pass suitable referrals to each other face-to-face, without building yet another massive directory. I even thought about putting a basic website together to make it happen.

Then I discovered the Psychology Business Incubator, founded by Alan Bradshaw… and honestly, it stopped me in my tracks. What Alan has built is so much more than the modest referral system I had in mind.

I recently sat down for a proper interview with Alan himself – and got the full story straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. It was such an eye-opening chat. He shared the heart behind the community, the practical details of how it runs, and why he believes authentic connection is the foundation for everything else. Talking to him made it crystal clear why this is such an inspiring space.

Alan, with over 30 years as a business psychologist specialising in workplace wellbeing, stress management, and mental health at work, has created something that goes far beyond casual networking. The community warmly welcomes anyone working in or deeply interested in the field of psychology – whether you’re a registered psychologist, counsellor, therapist, coach, HR professional with a psychology focus, academic, or simply passionate about applying psychological principles in your work. My understanding of what he said was, if you put real community first, the business benefits – referrals, collaborations, steady growth – follow naturally.

Welcoming Psychologist Network Events Open to Everyone: Positive Thursdays and Monthly Webinars

What really grabbed me in the interview was how accessible the main psychologist network events are. Positive Thursdays are weekly virtual gatherings rooted in positive psychology. Completely open to the public – no membership needed, and no registration as a psychologist required. According to Alan, members offer positive psychology workshops to those who join the meetings, participants offer each other encouragement, and everyone walks away re-energised. They typically happen on Thursdays at 7 pm UK time, and Alan described them as the entry point for psychology entrepreneurs to collaborate.

The monthly webinars follow the same open-door approach – free for anyone to join. Led by Alan, other directors, or experienced business members, they dive into clinical topics, business strategies, practice-building essentials, and broader applications of psychology in work and life, with interactive Q&A and solid, take-away actions. It’s generous, high-value learning with few barriers.

Exclusive Depth for Members: Biweekly Meetings and Beyond

Alan is inviting anyone wanting deeper connections to become members, which opens up the biweekly member meetings. These structured psychologist network events focus on building trust-based professional relationships, skill-sharing, and actively developing referral pathways. Alan is building the kind of reliable network that supports long-term success, whether you’re running a private practice, working in an organisation, or building something psychology-related.

Built for Busy Lives – And a Smart Future Goal

Alan was very practical about how packed our diaries get, so they record sessions (public and members-only). They’re currently working on a members-only information hub – a central library where members will eventually access all the recordings, shared resources, and tools with ease. A psychologist would also be able to use this for Continued Professional Development (CPD). It’s still in development and not live yet, but the plan is to make catching up or revisiting anything straightforward.

Right now, the member calendar lives under the Events tab on the Psychology Business Incubator website https://www.psychbizinc.com/eventpage. Alan highlighted how simple it is to check upcoming dates, block them out early, and make sure you never miss a psychologist network event.

What sets this apart from generic meetups or broad business networks is that it’s made by someone with deep psychology expertise, for people across the wider psychology-interested community. Alan’s emphasis is on ethical, meaningful connections rather than superficial exchanges, which creates a space where ideas spark, practices (and careers) evolve, and people truly lift each other up.

How to Join the Psychologist Network Events

I’d love for more people in and around the psychology field to experience it.

Pop over to the Psychology Business Incubator website to join at https://www.psychbizinc.com/joinus – if membership feels like the right fit.

Massive thanks to Alan Bradshaw for the open, generous interview – it was genuinely inspiring and made all the difference in understanding what makes this community so special.

Introduction

As the year winds down, take a moment for mindful reflection. This can provide a valuable chance to process what we’ve been through, which in turn can boost our emotional well-being and maturity. This process means looking back at both the good and the bad, not as failures, but as chances to learn and grow. Research in psychology suggests that our emotional experiences tend to get better with age, especially when we make a habit of reflecting, which ultimately leads to greater satisfaction with life.

Mindful reflection also helps us understand our own thoughts and feelings, which can improve both our academic and personal lives. It builds self-efficacy and critical thinking skills; students who take the time to reflect on their learning often see better results.

Resilience Through Mindful Reflection

Human narratives highlight the worth of this process. Imagine someone grappling with a difficult job loss: by exploring the lessons of resilience and adaptability, they transform suffering into strength. This compassionate perspective recognises hardships while acknowledging growth, lessening feelings of hopelessness as the year draws to a close through mindful reflection.

Research on the Power of Mindful Reflection

Mixed-methods research supports the idea that consistent mindful self-reflection improves mental well-being, with participants reporting increased clarity and a sense of purpose.

Qualitative methods, such as establishing growth objectives, demonstrate how externalising thoughts fosters both academic and emotional progress.

To make mindful reflection a genuine learning experience, it’s essential to structure it with care.
What went well this year? What hurdles did you face, and what did you learn? This approach brings hidden knowledge to the surface, helping you spot patterns.

Educators have found that reflecting at the year’s end can help mitigate emotional distress, fostering resilience.

Finally

Seeing the year as a whole—a tapestry of development—shifts the emphasis from what went wrong to what went right, in line with positive psychology. Ultimately, mindful reflection at year’s end is a compassionate act, turning the past into a foundation for future flourishing. By embracing it, individuals cultivate deeper self-understanding, turning reflective practices into a lifelong tool for well-being.
Introducing Online Mindfulness Therapy

Hey there, friends! This article talks about online mindfulness therapy. As the clock ticks down to midnight on December 31st, that familiar buzz of excitement (and maybe a touch of anxiety) fills the air. New Year’s Eve isn’t just about fireworks and champagne—it’s a natural pause for looking back and dreaming forward to mindful self-reflection. Sometimes we still worry about old conflicts or problems in our relationships. And in the rush to set those ambitious resolutions, we often skip the real magic: Online Mindfulness Therapy (which improves cognitive test scores). These practices aren’t just trendy buzzwords; they’re powerful tools for creating meaningful, sustainable change. Let’s dive into why incorporating them could make 2026 your most fulfilling year yet.

Online Mindfulness Therapy

First off, Online Mindfulness Therapy is like hitting the rewind button on your life reel. It’s about honestly reviewing the past year—what worked, what didn’t, and what lessons emerged from the chaos. This isn’t self-criticism; it’s self-awareness. Studies show that taking time to reflect boosts emotional regulation and helps us process experiences more positively, turning potential regrets into growth opportunities.

Consider this: before you declare a goal like “lose 20 pounds,” take a moment to examine what derailed previous efforts. Did stress eating during a particularly challenging period play a role? Understanding this can help you set more compassionate and achievable objectives. This kind of Online Mindfulness Therapy also boosts mental health by calming the amygdala, the brain’s stress hub, which in turn improves decision-making throughout the year.

Reflect, Breathe, Thrive

Now, combine that with mindfulness, and you’ve got a powerful combination.

Online Mindfulness Therapy is essentially about being fully present, experiencing the moment without any kind of evaluation. Research shows it can lower stress levels, lead to better sleep, and even improve the quality of your relationships—ideal for keeping those New Year’s resolutions.

Instead of trying to overhaul everything at once, Online Mindfulness Therapy suggests a more gradual approach. A simple five-minute meditation each day, for example, can enhance your concentration and build your ability to bounce back, which makes it less daunting when you miss a workout.

One study suggests that mindfulness cultivates compassion, allowing us to tackle our goals with a gentler touch, rather than a relentless pursuit of flawlessness.

Consider this: what if you approached your aspirations with genuine curiosity? “What if I truly enjoyed my meals, rather than adhering to a rigid diet?” This simple change transforms resolutions from burdens into pleasurable routines.

How to get started

Getting started is easier than you might think and guards against depression. For some mindful self-reflection, take a journal and write down three things that went well, three that didn’t, and three things you’re grateful for from 2025. This article focuses on couples and how we can provide online couples counselling that you can afford

What do we mean by Affordable Couples Counselling?

First, we define couples counselling. Couples counselling is when two people in a relationship seek help—this could be a marriage, a boyfriend or girlfriend, someone in a longer-term partnership, gay and lesbian couples, or those considering polyamorous relationships.

How We Offer Affordable Couples Counselling

At Best Online Therapy, we offer couples and individual counselling at affordable rates. As mentioned in our article on affordable online counselling, our rates are for working purely online.

We started our practice several years ago, first in New Zealand and now in the UK, specialising in working with couples. In our online couples counselling sessions, we use a variety of therapies, such as:

Intimacy from the Inside Out Counselling (IFIO), how you relate within (different parts of yourself) to be able to be intimate with your close relationships.

Internal Family Systems (IFS). Understanding internal functioning helps you become aware of how you relate to others.

Gottman’s Method for Couples Counselling. Using a house analogy to get to a place of trust and compassion for your loved one.

Gestalt Psychotherapy. Looking holistically at your relationship to better understand yourself and your partner.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. How thinking and emotions affect your relationship.

Dialectic Behaviour Therapy. Focus on communication and relating to others.

We also incorporate mindfulness practices, with a focus on communication skills, because couples often come to us with their communication issues. Mastering communication is vital for healthy relationships. It is also essential to learn to resolve conflicts and better control emotions. Hence, emotional regulation is especially crucial in couples therapy.

What Happens During Couples Sessions

When clients inform us that they can’t afford the fee, we are happy to negotiate and discuss the most affordable rate before starting the sessions. We negotiate a time that suits our clients best—whether they prefer a longer session, like 80 minutes, or a shorter one, such as 50 minutes. We believe therapy can still be very effective even with shorter sessions. Our counsellors tend to give clients more homework to try out between sessions. This allows them to practice new skills and make the most of time in therapy and outside of it.

During our sessions, we explore what may be causing couples’ difficulties and provide coaching to help them develop a plan to improve their relationship. We discuss what is most likely to trigger problems and work on solutions. With a budget-conscious client, we will work to reduce the number of sessions and provide more homework to optimise therapy time.
